Prananam
Prananam is a true fusion between the Gaelic speaking world and South Indian traditions. Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and Scottish Gaelic singer Robyn Carrigan of Nova Scotia studied Hindustani music with Neeraja Aptikar in Vancouver, discovering deep connections between Scottish/Irish Gaelic musical traditions and the music of the ragas. Her collaboration brings together the Carnatic, South Indian traditions of Kerala born musician AK Pillai and the Hindustani, North Indian traditions of Pune native and master vocalist Neeraja Aptikar. The name Prananam is a combination of the Sanskrit word for life force (Prana) and the Gaelic word for soul (Anam).
