2024 Pacific Rim Drumming Championship

As part of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association’s new eight-contest Champion of Champions League, the RSPBA Pacific Rim Drumming Championship, ScotFestBC is honoured in 2024 to be partnering with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Assn. and the BC Pipers’ Assn. to host one of the qualifying events at the British Columbia Highland Games in Coquitlam on June 15th.

This event offers North American drummers an opportunity to qualify for the World Solo Drumming Championship semifinal in Glasgow, Scotland in October. The winner of the event will win the J.Reid Maxwell Medal, styled with an orange ribbon as a tip of the hat to Maxwell’s signature orange ball cap.

The RSPBA judges for the event are Davey Brown from Aberdeen, Scotland and Duncan Millar from Coquitlam, BC. The event will be live-streamed from the "Big Tent" Stage at Coquitlam Town Centre Park.

Local qualifiers for the 2023 title included SFU Pipe Band drummers Blair Brown, Robert Graham, Taylor Killoran and Stephen Paynter.

This new event at ScotFestBC adds to the prestige of the Games and recognizes it as major stop in the piping, drumming, and pipe band competition circuit in the Pacific Northwest.

Entries for all Piping, Drumming, and Band events at ScotfestBC are now open until May 31, through Wild Apricot.
