Forró do Cana

Vancouver’s premier Brazilian Forro band, Forró do Cana, was founded in 2018 as a passion project, dedicated to the dissemination of the music of Northeastern Brazil. The music of Forró do Cana blends the sounds of the violin (and sometimes the Brazilian fiddle aka. rabeca) and accordion played by Serena Eades and Steve Charles respectively, with the Brazilian roots of Mario Silva’s seven string acoustic guitar and Sara Magal’s percussion and all Portuguese vocals.  Joining the band will be professional dancer and choreographer Andrea Monteiro and Rafael Costa.

Andrea Monteiro is a dancer and choreographer from Brazil. She discovered her passion for dancing at an early age, starting ballet at the age of 5 in São Paulo. She went on study acting, voice, and circus performance with Cia Litero Dramática Martins Pena. Andrea has gone on to perform with a variety of groups and as a solo performer in Brazil, China, Tibet, and Canada
