The St. Andrew’s & Caledonian Society in Vancouver was formed on September 10th 1886.

It’s objectives were to provide relief and mutual assistance to the many natives of Scotland and their descendants who settled in Vancouver, to encourage a national spirit and to promote Scottish music, language and literature. The society sponsored the annual Caledonian Games (now The British Columbia Highland Games), held banquets honouring the poet Robert Burns and celebrated St. Andrews Day in late November. The Scots were a dominant social and business community for more than a century in Vancouver.

The Society is the oldest in the City of Vancouver, and continues to hold it’s annual St. Andrew’s Ball, the St. Andrew’s Lecture and in 2025, sponsored the Great Canadian Kilt Skate in Vancouver. Learn more:
